The Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters, with the arrest of fifteen from whom nearly 114 stolen vehicles, including 51 cars and 63 motorcycles, were recovered.
The gang had divided Srinagar into different zones assigned to them by seven kingpins, four of which have also been arrested, police said.
They used to stalk mostly those cars that were in abandoned locations.A minor was also among the gang who the, police say, was lured by one of the kingpins into vehicle lifting. Three main players are still absconding, police said.
Talking to the media, SSP Srinagar, S A H Bukhari, said: “This gang was involved in a major thefts in Kashmir so far from the past two months. To nab them, District police Srinagar constituted five special teams under the supervision of concerned Superintendent of police.”
“These are the major players in the entire Kashmir valley. We have announced a special reward on the heads of three kingpins who are absconding and if they are arrested, then Srinagar will become free from any vehicle lifting,” he added.
