NC government responsible for forest loot: PDP

Srinagar, Dec 16 :::Condemning the wanton loot of forests, Peoples Democratic Party Friday accused the NC led government of plundering the states precious forest  resources for its own personal purposes by facilitating unbridled cutting of trees across the valley which can snowball into a major  ecological disaster in the Valley.
In a press communiqué, Former Minister and Senior leader Qazi Mohammed Afzal  said the NC government’s Shoeshine approach to curb forest loot is symptomatic of it being hand in glove with unscrupulous elements that are hell bent to vandalise the forests and bruise the beauty of this valley. This government has only ensured a free hand to the nexus of officials and timber smuggling mafia in every part of Kashmir, he added.

Referring to the recent forest conservation policy, Qazi said  that despite having framed the first ever policy on conservation of forests the NC led government has not been able to implement even its  10 per cent which apparently suggests that forest loot is going with the blessings of NC government and its beneficiaries.
The wanton loot of forests has already started to show its effects in parts of Kashmir, which is facing severe shortage of water for irrigation and drinking purposes, the statement said. The nexus of officials and timber mafia under the “watchful eye” of government has been running riot in the valley forests chopping off green gold with impunity and ferrying it unhindered for sale. “Where has this timber gone, into whose home has this timber gone?” He questioned.
The plight of forests is symptomatic of anti-people polices of NC Government similar to the selling of feasible water projects to outside state, rampant corruption, mis-governance and humongous unemployment, he added.
