Kandiwara, a village in South Kashmir’s Kokernag area is yet get the bridge on its 1.75km’s long road
despite assurance from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah days after tragic road accident in the area.
Locals fumed over the politicizing the construction of bridge
by Local Congress MLA, Peerzada Mohd Syed, who currently heads Haj and Awqaf
ministry and blamed him for the delay. they urged Chief Minister to intervene personally
as non-construction of the proposed bridge on Nallah Bringi isa again bringing
miseries to the people and can be again the reason of any tragic road accident.
Locals told Early times that after 5 April, the day which
took the precious lives of nine innocent school children of the village in a tragic
road accident to the non-availability of bridge, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Governer N N Vohara and other ministers of the
state felt sorry and later chief minister himself visited the area and laid the
foundation stone of the bridge as to avoid any further accident but concerned
MLA and Haj and Awqaf Minister who before accident was incompetent to construct
the bridge started interfering into the issue and started politicking it.
“Before road accident we approached him (MLA) several times
but he told us that he incompetent to construct the bridge as the construction
requires huge amount but unfortunately when after the terrific accident we got
sanctioned it, he started interfering and started politicizing which resulted
the delay.” Gulam Ahmad Mir, local Awqaf President said.
He said that R&B department came with a plan to construct
the bridge on 1.75km’s long Sagam-Kandwari road at a cost of 1 crore but after the interference
for Peerzada Mohd Sayeed department for their vested interests which they share
with MLA revised it and unnecessarily increased up to over 7 crore.
Locals said that department has now increased the lenghth of
the road by connecting two villages through another village Khalhar which is
already connected to both the villages and others as well.
They blamed Haj and Awqaf Minister for looting the state exchequer
on the name of development as he has allegedly directed R&B department to revise
the plan and relocate the bridge.
Residents of both the villages have appealed Chief Minister
Omar Abdullah to intervene.
