Sopore custodial killing: Probe in final stage, says police chief


Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda Monday said that investigation into the custodial death of youth in Sopore was in final stage and all information would be shared with media once it was completed.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Baramulla in north Kashmir, Khoda reiterated that the probe into the killing of 28-year-old shopkeeper, Nazim Rashid alias Naveed Anjum, was going on in a transparent manner.

“Investigation is in final stage and once it is completed, details will be shared with media,” Khoda said in response to a question about the progress in the probe into the custodial killing in July last.
After registering a case FIR No. 02 /2011 under section 302 RPC, police arrested three cops in connection with the custodial killing.
Three policemen—Head Constable Janak Raj, Nisar Ahmad and Muhammad Abass, both Selection Grade constables, have been arrested by police in connection with the case.
Besides, SP Sopore, Altaf Ahmad Khan, was transferred and Deputy Superintendent of Police SOG, Ashiq Hussain Tak, was attached.
In response to another question, the DGP said that about 250 militants were present in Kashmir valley. “Fifty-five percent of them are locals,” he said.
He also announced that Jammu and Kashmir police provides full assistance to the National Investigation Agency in connection to the blast in New Delhi recently.
