A spontaneous shutdown is being observed in parts of the Kashmir valley on Tuesday to mark the death anniversary of seventeen people killed during anti-United States protests last year.
Eyewitness said, a shutdown is being observed in Pampore, south of summer capital Srinagar, to mark the day.
The said, locals paid homage and offered Fateh to three youth killed in government forces' firing on protesters last year on this day.
Three youths, Ajaz Ahmad Wagay, Javaid Ahmad Rather hailing from Kadlabal and Mohammad Maqbool Sheikh resident of Tengan Rakh Shalina were killed at Kadlabal.
Eyewitness said, amid a huge deployment of government forces, life has come to a halt. Some private vehicles and government office are open, they said.
A complete shutdown is also being observed in parts of central Kashmir's Budgam district. Last year, the region saw sporadic protest after reports of Quran burning reached Kashmir.
A local religious body in the region has asked people to observe complete strike.
In Tanmarg, a hill station, west of Srinagar, people are observing a spontaneous shutdown. Adjacent areas like Magam are also observing strike to mark the death anniversary of eight people killed during the protest last year.
Shutdown is also being observed in Humhama where four people died during protests.
On this day, last year, protests in Kashmir escalated over several days, as demonstrations against alleged public burning of the Quran as a protest in the United States commemorating the September 11 attacks quickly turned into pro-freedom protests.
On September 13, protesters defied a curfew, at least 17 people were killed as forces opened fire.
