After freezing nights, Kashmir braves chilly day

After witnessing freezing temperatures during nights, people in Kashmir Thursday braved a chilly day as weatherman predicted possibility of light snow at one or two places in higher reaches of Kashmir region in next 24-hours.
A meteorological official here said this summer capital recorded maximum of 9.5 Degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal for this time of the year and nearly five degrees lower than yesterday.
With overnight cloud cover, there was rise in the low temperatures, recorded at 0.2 Deg Cel against season’s low of minus 2.2 Deg Cel on previous night.

Even though there was some rise in the temperature at Pahalgam, the world famous hill resorts in south Kashmir remained coldest place in Kashmir Valley, recording a low of minus 1.6 against minus 4.1 Deg Cel yesterday. The health resort recorded maximum of 10.2 Deg Cel.
Qazigund, the gate way town of Kashmir, was the third coldest place in Valley, recording a low of minus 0.8 Deg Cel and maximum of 9.8 Deg Cel.
Other southern Kashmir area, Kokernag recorded minimum of minus 0.7 degrees Celsius and day temperature at 9.7 Deg Cel, the weatherman said.
Frontier Kupwara district in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.9 Deg Cel and maximum of 13.2 Deg Cel, the MeT office said.
World famous ski resort— Gulmarg —was the second coldest place in the Valley after Pahalgam, recording a low of minus 1.0 against 3.4 Deg Cel yesterday.
Regarding the forecast for next 24-hours, the weatherman had good news in store, predicting much needed snow fall in upper reaches.
According to forecast issued at 1800 hours this evening, the weatherman said, “Cold and hazy, possibility of Light Snow at one or two places in higher reaches of Kashmir Region and Mainly dry over the rest of the region.”
