LS Polls: campaign ends for Phase -III
616100 females among over 13 Lac voters will decide fate of
12 candidates
Srinagar, April 22:
Campaigning for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency ended
today as the segment will go for polls on April 24 to decide the fate of 13
contesting candidates.
616100 females among 1301109 voters will exercise their democratic
rights for which Election commission has setup 1615 polling stations in all 16
assembly segments of the parliamentary constituency.
The authorities have also deployed ample number of police
and paramilitary personals to ensure the safety and security of polling booths
and voters especially in the volatile areas of the constituency. Among 1301109 voters,
1450 male and female adults will exercise their democratic rights for the first
time.
Besides Killings, militant threats and boycott call constituency
is expecting a slight high turnout than of 2009 Lok Shaba elections. In 2009 constituency
recorded just 27 % turn out.
In Anantnag
parliamentary segment there is
neck-to-neck contest between
Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and
National Conference(NC) supported by assembly coalition partner Indian National Congress(INC) , while as the rest of candidates in fray can’t
even as the game spoilers excluding Aam Aadmi Party candidate Tanveer Maqbool
Dar who is son of former congress leader Mohd Maqbool Dar.
Those who are contesting from Anantnag parliamentary
constituency are; Mohammad Sharif of BSP, Asif Jeelani of AIFB,Dr. Tanvir
Maqbool Dar of AAP,Mushtaq Ahmad Malik of BJP,Syed Abid Ahmad Shah of JKNPP,
Gh. Nabi Shah of SP, Dr.Mirza Mehboob Beg of NC, Mehbooba Mufti of
JKPDP,Mohammad Yaqoob Rather of All Jammu and Kashmir Republican Party,Mohd
Yousuf Ganie of ASP, Tanveer Hussain Khan of AIP as Independent , Abdul Ahad
Mir as Independent.
Constituency’s half vote bank lays with the unemployed youth
while as 38% with the people engaged with agriculture. Urban and semi Urban
areas especially of Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopain will prefer to remain inside
while as the rural population will come out and exercise their democratic right.
Political observers are of the opinion that in this neck to
neck fight if voter turnout rose up to 40%, this winning margin will be just
around 4-5 thousand voter, however, whatever happens political coin is going to
be tossed on 24th April.
