South Kashmir also Shuts on Hurriyat Call


Saahil Suhail,Anantnag, October 27: like other parts of the Kashmir valley, a complete shutdown was observed in South Kashmir after the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for a general strike to protest against landing of army in Kashmir on October 27, 1947.

Shops and other business establishments like petrol pumps, private offices, Banks and Schools remained closed, Schools while only skeletal transport services were plying the roads in the District , officials said.
The attendance in government offices was also thin due to non-availability of regular transport facilities, they said
Heavy contingents of police and CRPF were deployed in the Anantnag District in order to avert the stone pelting clashes.
However their was no stone pelting clash in the District, police sources said
Meanwhile Anantnag police has not so far nab the suspect militants who throw a grenade on passing vehicle at Gowriwan Bijbehara that missed the target and exploded in the Tobacco Shop resulting injuries to five persons including a non-local identified as Danish Halwaie
“We have started investigation and it is expected that in near future we will be in a position to nab the militants involved in grenade attack.” SP Zahid Malik Said adding that the situation in district remained peaceful throughout the day.
