Anantnag, April 09: In brazen violation of COVID19 protocol, two persons, who tested positive for coronavirus in South Kashmir’s in Anantnag and Kulgam district on Thursday, has spent only 4 days in administrative quarantine at Kokernag.
The infected person, who had directly came in contact with a deceased coronavirus infected person, were also allowed to move home without being tested.

As per sources, the infected person from Qazigund Anantnag had came in contact with a Sopore resident, who later tested positive and died due coronavirus, in Jammu on 13th of March.
They revealed that on 25th of March COVID-19 Surveillance Team traced a suspect who also had came in touch with coronavirus positive person and sent him to administrative quarantine facility setup at Kokernag.
“This person named nine other people who had met Sopore resident and most of them were from Kulgam. This matter was urgently taken up with Kulgam district and all of them were shifted to Kokernag,” an official, who is looking after COVID-19 efforts in Anantnag district said.
He claimed that all the suspects spent four days-from 26th March to 30th March- at Kokernag and later were allowed to move home without taking their samples.
“We kept raising the issue of testing with GMC Anantnag but Principal didn’t heed to our requests and didn’t agree to take the samples of these people for testing,” he alleged.
Officials at Kokernag administrative quarantine facility also admitted that the infected person spent only four days at Kokernag and was allowed to move without being tested.
As per the COVID-19 protocol those suspects, who had directly came in contact with a positive case, should have been tested, however the authorities at Anantnag went against the protocol.
“There were clear cut directions from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir but they were thrown into dustbin and these people weren’t tested despite the fact that they themselves disclosed that they had came in touch with a positive case,” an officer said and blamed GMC Anantnag for the mess.
Chief Medical Officer Kulgam, Dr Fazil Kochak said that the infected persons have been shifted to Kulgam hospital and immediate family members have been put under home quarantine.
“His contacts are being traced,” he said, adding the sample of infected persons were collected on 7th of this month.
Important to mention, Kulgam Health authorities had collected 73 samples out of which they have received the result of 36 samples. Out of 36 samples, 3 have tested positive for coronavirus and others are negative.
Kulgam district administration has declared Sopat Tangpora and Nayakpora Kulgam as red zones while as the Anantnag district administration has also declared Check-e-Wangud village of Qazigund as ‘Red Zone’ and restricted the inward and outward movement of people in these villages.
