Kulgam Protests against power cuts

Saahil Suhail, Kulgam, Dec, 19: People from several villages today staged a protest demonstration against Power Developmental Department in Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
People from kulgam town adjoining villages staged a sit-in protest near town hall on Kulgam Anantnag road this morning.

The demonstrators, protesting against non frequent power cuts in their villages, blocked traffic on the road for several hours.
S H O Kulgam, Tariq Ahmad Tak and Assistant Regional Transport Officer reached the spot and pacified the protesters with an assurance that their demands would be taken up with the concerned officials.
Later the protesters dispersed off peacefully. However due to the traffic blockade from 8 to 12:30 a.m. commuters including students had to face difficulties reaching their destinations.
When contacted AE PDD Kulgam , Ab Hamid said,” overloading is damaging our transformers continuously in the district so far as the namber has reached to 82” adding that the department has already overhauled the 32 while as 50 transformers are still lying in the workshop
He said that people are using heaters and boilers, overloading has became a common problem in the district by which we facing problems in operating the district. He applauded the common people to avoid the use of heaters in those days so that their will be no more damage in the district,
