Shifting detainees outside Valley is violation of the human rights: JeI

Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islami today strongly condemned the shifting of detainees out of the valley and termed it as ‘inhuman’ and ‘merciless’ act on part of the authorities.

“The shifting of detainees from the jails in Kashmir to far flung jails in the Jammu is a condemnable merciless act aimed at to deprive these innocent detainees from their easy meetings with the parents, and other family member,” Zahid Ali said.

He also alleged that the detainees under the Public Safety Act was kept under detention without trial and were deprived of their fundamental right of life and liberty.

“The government has started shifting them to the far-flung jails which is a blatant violation of the human rights and an immoral act which should be condemned,” the spokesperson added.

He also said Jama’at demands an unconditional release of all the political detainees languishing in various jails and also appeals the human rights bodies to intervene in the matter for the safeguard of the rights of these detainees. (AIP News)
