Anantnag, Feb. 01: The inhabitants of Tulhad Aishmuqam of district Anantnag today staged demonstration against the Power Development Department for its failure to restore the electricity.
Village dwellers staged protest demonstration near police station Aishmuqam and raised slogans against the PDD Department. They blocked Khanabal Phalgam road and the vehicular movement on the road was not allowed for several hours by the protesters.
“Our transformer, which had developed a technical snag two months ago, was taken by the officials of PDD for repairs. However, the officials failed to repair and install it,” the protestors said.
They said that despite numerous representations to the senior functionaries in the PDD department, nothing substantial was done so far. “We have been visiting the concerned department frequently from the last two months, but the officials only provide us hollow assurances,” the protestors added.
They said, the people, especially children were suffering immensely due to non-availability of electricity during the sub-zero temperature.

In order to avoid any law and order situation in the area, SP Anantnag, Zahid Malik along with Station House Office Aishmuqam visited the area and pacified the protesters.
“their demand Is genuine, as the area is reeling under the darkness from last one month.” SHO Aishmuqam said, adding that some of the youth present In the protest were trying to creat law and problem in the area that we didn’t allow them do.
Meanwhile a delegation of the respected citizens of the area along with SHO Aishmuqam visited Deputy Commissioners’ office. DC Anantnag, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi assured them that their transformer will be installed soon.
According to PDD Executive Engineer Aishmuqam, over load had caused extensive damage to the transformers as there is a large number of damaged transformers pending in workshop. The official said the transformer would be installed within few days.
