Flood situation in South Kashmir worsens, administration caught napping
Two died, Hundreds trapped, vital bridges washed away

Anantnag, September 4: Flood situation in South Kashmir's Anantnag and Kulgam district worsened after two dozen villages and localities including major areas of Anantnag town submerged, resulting death of two people. Locals in Anantnag and Kulgam alleged that the district administrations is risking the lives of those families who stand trapped, as the administrations have not made an arrangements for rescuing the trapped families.
Two people identified as Jameel Gorsi S/o Gulam Gorsi , aged 22 yrs resident of Ichoo Gadole Kokernag and Jana Begum W/o Haleem Khari R/o Gadveil, Kokernag lost their lives due to flash floods in the area. Reports said that flash floods away washed away the Gadool Bridge
besides have affected over dozen villages including Halpora, Chartanzi, Adigam, Irkumoo, Nagam, Kandiwara, Soaf, Hiller, Khalhar, Arhama, Guihard, pooroo and Hayatpora. Flash floods have also damaged agriculture land in the area.

According to official reports due to incessant rains, flood situations  worsened in Anantnag district as several villages and localities adjacent to Jehulm river bank submerged. They said that 7 Nomads
families were rescued in Palpora area of Hakura Badezgam. Locals in Ganjiwara Anantnag told Early Times that whole the area is under water since morning but besides repeated requests administration failed in rescuing them. "Since morning we are telephoning the administration but they so far as failed. We just need few boats so that we can come out of our residential houses." A resident Told Early Times.
Officail sources said that government has not so far entertained the request of DC Anantnag in which he has demanded 25 boats for rescue operations.
Areas like Nai-Basti Anantnag, sepan, Danter, Akhran, Khanbal also submerged today due to incessant rainfall. However the water level in river Lidder decreased due to snowfall in upper reaches of Phalgam. River Lidder has so far affected areas like Che-Ancidora, SK Colony of the town, reports said.
Flash floods washed away few vital bridges in District Anantnag including Dooru Verinag and Chewlagam Kulgam Bridge. Traffic on Anantnag-Verinag road was suspended after bridge collapsed.
Meanwhile, District administration with the help of locals in Kulgam managed to rescue the 7 trapped persons in Nowpora village. Local youths have so far also managed to shift to flood hit families to safer places in the district.
