Kashmir’s Bijbehara, Early Times Learnt on Sunday.
The residents of Panjpora
Asthanpora-Bijbehara allege that the soil extracting mafia has resumed the
illegal extraction of soil from a patch of state land after striking a deal
with revenue employees.
They informed that the mafia put two JCB’s on work and over
seven tippers on ferrying extracted soil to different areas of Anantnag
district.
Villagers said that earlier Tehsildar Bijbehara had stopped
the illegal soil extraction but now mafia has resumed it again. They demanded
stern action against the offenders.
Locals alleged that soil extracting mafia is in league with revenue
department employees who allow them to violate the laws so brazenly.
Nisar Ahmad, a resident from the area said that scores of
tippers, tractors and bulldozers can be seen laden with soil from the state
land and ferrying it to different places. “Each tipper makes at least fifteen rounds
in a day,” he said.
Nisar said that mafia mixes the extracted soil with sand at
Sangam Bijbehara and also uses extracted soil in filling roads sides.
“We raised the issue
with the concerned department. Tehsildar Bijbehara stopped it but now surprisingly
they have resumed it,” the residents said and demanded action against the
offenders.
Tehsildar Bijbehara, Ishtiyaq Mohiduin admitted to have received
complaints about illegal soil extraction.
“We acted swiftly, stopped illegal soil extraction and then seized
the vehicles and later fined them,” he said.
Tehsildar Bijbehara
said that he had also placed the concerned Patwari under suspension.
He sought help from villagers and requested them click the
pictures of vehicles and their registration numbers so that stern action
against them is initiated.
