Police books rights activist Ehsan Untoo sexual assault case

Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case of sexual assault against Human rights activist Ahsan Untoo after a complaint from a woman.

According to details, FIR No. 10/2019 under sections 376 and 511 of RPC has been registered against Antoo at Police Station Rajbagh Srinagar.

Ahsan Untoo, human rights activist, is heading International Forum for Justice and Protection of Human Rights.

The complainant, a widow, hailing from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, in her complaint to police had said that her husband was militant commander who was killed in 1993 in a gunfight with the forces along with seven others militants.

“Since I had no source of income, I approached Hurriyat for financial assistance. Hurriyat management told me to accompany Ehsan Untoo to his rented accommodation where he pulled down his pants and pinned down to me on bed and attempted to rape me,” says a distraught and traumatized victim.

“He almost overpowered me but Allah gave me the courage and I pushed him aside and ran out of the house.” She adds. According to her, In the middle of the chaos, she couldn’t even collect the cheque that Yateem Trust had written for her.

After the incident, she went to Hurriyat leaders and complained against Untoo, but despite promising some action and knowing every dirty secret of the sex predator, the leadership couldn’t do anything. It was then that she decided to take legal recourse and formally approached Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Police has now registered an FIR against Ehsan Untoo and started investigation.
