Will resolve Kashmir issues, if voted to Power: Congress President G A Mir

Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Sunday said that if his party if voted to power will resolve the issues of Kashmir by initiating credible political initiatives.

“Political issues and political confrontations need to be resolved politically. Congress is capable of handling such issues and finding resolutions as we have resolved such problems in Punjab, Assam and Mizoram,” Mir said on being asked that will congress find any alternate to ‘Operation All Out’ if they come into power in the state.

On the sidelines of party convention here in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Congress will talk to people in the state and resolve all the issues currently people here are confronting.

“It (Holding Talks with Pakistan) was there in agenda of alliance of PDP-BJP government but it didn’t happen. Congress will deal all political issues politically and dialogue will play important role. To make the dialogue process credible, we will involve all stake holders. Earlier also we had initiated such initiative by holding Round Table Conference at Prime Minister’s level but some colleagues didn’t come forward . In future we will initiate all such initiatives for resolving political issues and not by killings,” he added.

Mir also said that Congress is ready to implement former Interlocutors’ report.  “We initiated a series of development schemes and programs on the recommendations of interlocutors but we come to power at central level we will again start implementing all those genuine recommendations of interlocutors. Also as we have framed a policy working group exclusively for Jammu and Kashmir, we are getting inputs from political parties, intellectuals and others and we are seriously taking cognizance,” he said.

Mir accused regional political parties of befooling common masses by promising them probe commissions. “Before coming to power NC promised a probe commission but after assuming power they forget and PDP also did the same. They have bad track record. However congress will take enough measures for bringing an end of such situations,” he said.

Earlier addressing workers, Mir urged them to strength party at gross root level and give befitting reply to BJP and other regional political parties. Hilal Ahmad Shah, State General Secretary Congress, former Legislators, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Mohd Amin Bhat also addressed the gathering. Over dozen PDP workers and officers bearers also joined congress on the occasion.
