Kulgam: Large scale disparities surface in National scholarship scheme

Early Times Report
Kulgam, May 9: The officials in Union Ministry of Minority Affairs have allegedly scammed the scholarship scheme-Merit cum means scholarship for professional technical courses by sanctioned scholarships in favor of fake names.
The large scale disparities in the final list of candidates have surfaced on National scholarship scheme website where scholarships have been sanctioned against hundreds of fake names and it certainly exposes the tall claims of clean, efficient and transparent governance.
For South Kashmir’s Kulgam district the ministry has sanctioned scholarship for Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 in favor of 474 students studying in different parts of the county, however the list shows large scale disparity.
The website shows that most of the candidates belong to Mandal family and their parents have been shown as Muslims and hailing from Kulgam district of Kashmir.
SAMRAT MANDAL s/o MDESTEYAK ALAM with application number JK201819011021069      has been shown as Muslim and is studying in VIGNANA BHARATHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, PRODDATUR. An amount of Rs 30,000 has been sanctioned in his favor for pursing a 3 year course in Computer Science.
Father’s name of Samrat Mandal, another candidate has been shown as Salim Akther which is highly unlikely as Akther is post fixed with females names only.
According to the website, The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs has sanctioned over 1.20Cr under the scheme for Kulgam district for such ‘fake’ candidates.
Locals activists are demanding a fair probe into what they call a ‘scam’.
