Saahil Suhail, Anantnag, Nov.26: While backing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Senior Congress leader, PHE and Irrigation Minister Taj Mohi-u-din, on Saturday said that they ready to amend the state's Ranbir Penal Code to give legal protection to the army.
“We are ready to amend Ranbir the Ranbir Penal Code and put it on a par with the CrPC.” He said while talking to media on the sideline of the function here in South Kahmir’s Anantnag District adding that would provide legal protection and immunity to the armed forces during anti-terrorist operations in state.
The state, apart from enjoying a special status under Article 370 of the Constitution, has its own penal code. The Indian Penal Code is not applicable here.
Pertinently statement comes after the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who said that he is ready to provide legal protection to the security forces.
On controversial AFSPA Act, Taj said, “we are with chief Minister’s decision, what he had said about its revocation is our collective decision.” Adding that the state cabinet will take everyone into confidence before its revocation from certain areas of state.
Moreover lashed out the rumors about the divsions in state congress and said that there are no divsions in state congress
“We are not divided, there are no divisions in state congress, there may be ideological difference in the party but our agenda is one.” Taj Mohidi-u-din said.
Earlier Minister inaugurated two major water supply schemes at Dailgam and Mattan Anantnag, who was accompanied by the senior officers from PHE & Irrgration and District Administration of Anantnag. Some congress workers were also present on the occasion.
