Srinagar, January 01: All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that there is confusion among Indian establishment over dialogue. He was reacting to the statement of Indian Home Minister, P Chidambaram that India is open for dialogue with Kashmiri pro-liberation leaders.
The APHC Chairman, in a media interview in Srinagar said, “We are not against dialogue and are ready for meaningful tripartite talks. But talks shouldn’t be held for the sake of talks. It should be result-oriented process. Dialogue process till now failed because India was never serious in talks. We had given some proposals to New Delhi last time but no forward movement was made.”
He maintained that there was confusion among Indian establishment over the dialogue process. “When Home Minister offers dialogue, Army chief is against it. If any Kashmiri leader is ready tomorrow for dialogue, Army will oppose it. Then what is the fun of entering into such a process? There is confusion among Indian establishment. Political leaders say one thing and army says other,” he added. The Mirwaiz pointed out that New Delhi couldn’t reach to any consensus on AFSPA revocation. “How can they reach to consensus on resolving Kashmir dispute?” he questioned, adding that conducive atmosphere was pre-requisite for talks. He said that the lingering dispute could be resolved by implementing the relevant UN resolutions.
Senior APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah in his reaction said that the talks in the past could not yield positive results because India was not serious. He said that Kashmir-specific Confidence Building Measures should be announced before commencement of any dialogue process.
The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami in the occupied territory, Sheikh Mohammad Hassan said, “We favour tripartite dialogue process. Though we welcome the dialogue process but it should include the leaders of India, Pakistan and representatives of Kashmiris,” he said, adding that India should fulfil its promises made with Kashmiris.
