‘Killing of Rafiabad youth is an accident’

Kulgam, FEB 12:Government today ordered an inquiry into the killing of a Sarpanch and National Conference activist of south Kashmirs’ Kulgam district. Gulzar Ahmad Dar, a Sarpanch of Hawoora Mishpora village was shot dead by the unidentified gunmen Thursday even when he was coming out of Masjid after offering Isha prayers. In the shoot out another person Abdul Qayoom Alai was also injured.
Talking to media persons after paying condolence visit to the family of the deceased, senior NC leader and minister of state for Home Nasir Aslam Wani said that he has directed the police to investigate the killing of Sarpanch and submit the report within a week.

“The deceased was enjoying a good public support in the area and had won the Panchayat elections with huge margin. There are complaints that he might have been the victim of political rivalry. So on the basis of such complaints I have directed the concerned Deputy
Inspector General (DIG) of police to thoroughly investigate the casewithin a weeks time,” Nasir said.
He said that government is ready to provide security to those Panchs or Sarpanchs who feel insecure.
“If any Panch or Sarpanch receives any kind of threats and feels insecure he should inform us and we will provide him the security,”. Terming the killing of a youth, Ashiq Hussain in Rafiabad as accidental minister said that the army has apologized to both family of the youth as well as to the people of the area.
“The killing of youth was accidental and army has admitted its mistake. I personally visited the family of the victim along with army officers who apologized to the people of the area,” Nasir said.
However he added that the incident even if being an accident is highly condemnable.
