ANANTNAG, June 26: After facing worst defeat in recently
held Parliamentary elections, two Cabinet Ministers of state Government
affiliated with National Conference and Congress, invited public wrath for
using political pranks to remain in limelight, alleged locals.
As per details available with Early Times, hundreds of
females who today participated in awareness camp organized by Social Welfare
department in Dooru area of South Kashmir returned deceived as State Tourism
Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Social Welfare Minister Sakeena Itoo hijacked the
camp and turned it into a public meeting.
Eyewitness said that senior officials of Health, Social
Welfare and Education department were seen flouting all norms and appeasing
their political bosses while participating in the public gathering and
listening to the political speeches of Ministers.
Sources said that participants mainly pregnant ladies and
adolescent girls returned ditched as no monetary benefit was given to them
which they were promised.
"We were told that the Ministers will distribute
cheques of Rs 1400 each among the pregnant ladies here but till end of the day
we waited but they (Ministers) after giving speeches left and no cheques were
distributed," a lady told Early Times.
"Since morning they kept us hungry and not allowed us
even to buy some eatables from the market. Besides us our infants also remained
hungry entire day now at the end we are facing acute shortage of
transport," she added with tearful eyes.
General sectary Trade union Shahabad, Ali Mohammad Mantoo of
the Dooru town also condemned the hijacking of the official function and said,
"It is highly condemnable that political leaders are using deceptive
politics for their political gains. I felt petty on those Ministers who lured
poor pregnant ladies for monetary benefit and at the end of the day left
without honouring the commitment."
Bar Association General Secretary, Advocate Mir Mohammad
Hussain too condemned the situation in the aftermath of the function and said
that the association will not accept exploitation of sentiments of poor females
of the Dooru.
Locals told Early Times that if the politicians didn't
change their rhetoric polices, they (Locals) will launch a sustainable campaign
against them. "Politicians have adopted this policy for showing that they
enjoy support of maximum population of the area and worst affected in child
studying in Government run schools," they added.
Despite repeated attempts both the Ministers couldn't be
contacted as they didn't respond to repeated calls. However, Director Social
Welfare Nisar Hussain Wani refuted the allegations and said, "it was
purely an awareness camp organized in collaboration with Education and Health
departments. Pregnant ladies or those who had delivered the baby were called in
the program as we had to distribute cheques among them under IGMSY
scheme."
He said that it was not possible to offer cheques on the
spot among 1021 beneficiaries so we have decided to send them the amount in to
their banks accounts.
