Anantnag, November 1, 2018: Fractions within National conference
came to limelight in South Kashmir’s Qazigund on Thursday as over thirty
members of South Kashmir Zone Committee skipped a crucial meet
The meeting of South Kashmir Zone was conveyed by Zone President
Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri to deliberate situation and Panchayat elections being
conducted by the Governor administration in the state.
In the meeting, only 22 National Conference leaders and
workers attended the meeting held at Townhal Qazigund.
Ghulam Mohmmad Shah, National Conference Vice-President and
In-Charge Devsar constituency also didn’t turn to attend the meeting. Sakeena
Itoo, fromer Minister and state Secretary, Altaf Ahmad Kaloo-MLA Pahalgam also
didn’t also didn’t turn the meeting. The other members of South Kashmir Zone Committee,
who didn’t attend the meeting include Youth district Presidents, Youth district
secretaries, Constituency In charges and Block Presidents.
Members, who attended the meeting, expressed resentment against
absentees and requested South Kashmir Zonal President Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri to
take up the issue with party leadership.
“Yes, its true NC is a divided us in South Kashmir. 70%
members didn’t attend the meeting conveyed by Zonal President,” National Conference,
whishing anonymity told Early Times.
He said that only seven members attended the meeting while
the strength of members of South Kashmir Zone Committee is 52.
“Among 22 people who attended the meeting only seven were
members of South Zone Committee rest were the members of National Conference,”
he claimed.
NC leader said that reason behind the division was misuse of
power and that some leaders weren’t abiding the directions of provincial committee.
Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, who presided over the meeting, said
that there was no division in the party ranks.
“There is no division. Prevailing situation is something
different because of which some couldn’t attend the meeting,” he told Early
Times at Qazigund.
He also said that they (National Conference) will not participate
in Panchayat elections. “Our stand is clear we will not participate in these
Panchayat elections,” he said.
