Pakistani national gets voting rights in Poonch, enquiry ordered

Srinagar, Nov 1, 2018: In violation of norms, authorities in Pooch district of Jammu have entered name of a Pakistani citizen into electoral roll.

According to reports, in village Sawijan of block Mandi Poonch authorities have registered the name of a lady in voter list that is actually a resident of Pakistan occupied Kashmir and has illegally entered into Jammu and Kashmir via Nepal few years ago.

They said that her husband, a resident of Poonch had crossed over POK in early nineties for arms training and later returned to Kashmir via Nepal. “While staying in POK, he got married to a Pakistani girl there and then returned to Jammu via Nepal with her,” revealed sources.


They said that an FIR against couple for entering in Jammu and Kashmir State without requisite documents’ stands registered against the couple.

A formal complaint has been filled in the office of Deputy Commissioner Pooch and the authorities have initiated an enquiry into it.

Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Mr Rahul Yadav while confirming to have received a complaint in this regard said that he has ordered an enquiry.

“I have ordered an enquiry and were looking into it,” he told Early Times over phone.

He said that they probe how her name was entered into electoral roll and was proper procedure fallowed or not.

“We will also have to look whether she is from Pakistan or Pakistan Occupied Kashmir,” he added.
