Anantnag, May 11: In a shocking incident, miscreants have allegedly
damaged apple orchard of a Kashmiri Pandit family in Akura-Mattan village of South
Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
As per reports and videos that have appeared on social media
sites, several fruit bearing apple trees have been damaged by the miscreants’ during
the intervening night. Branches of apple trees have been chopped, villagers
told Early Times.
They said that apple orchard belongs to a Kashmir Pandit
Aajay Raina and is spread over six kanals of land.
“We demand a probe as this incident has shocked us all and
defamed us,” villagers said.
“Early in the morning, I visited my orchard and spotted that
some trees in another orchard have been damaged. Firstly I though the winds
might have damaged the trees then I came to know that some miscreants have done
it. I immediately ringed Aajay Raina and informed him,” Nissar Ahmad Itoo, neighbor
of Kashmiri Pandit family told media.
He demanded probe and said that the incident has defamed the
village and Islam. “He is our neighbor and we can tolerate such things, we
demand probe and demand that the culprit be exposed before the villagers so
that such incidents aren’t repeated in future,” he added.
Mattan police said that they have taken cognizance of the incident
and started investigation into the matter
